In 2024, the artist aket created the poster for the Dunkirk carnival, one of the most followed carnivals in the world.
The work, titled On the Way Back, is intended as an ode to the sources. The carnival-goers were struck by the change in the traditional carnival poster's image. The artistic choice was mainly to pay tribute to the sea and the fisherman returning from Iceland. According to the artist, we often forget in our traditions that sailors left their families in anguish for months. The scene is set at the citadel, where the sailor, the musician, and the woman are in a boat, huddled together. You can sense the fatigue of the three characters, but also their desire for nothing to come to a halt. Various details are present, blending elements of cubism and street art. At the bottom of this poster, the herring fisherman proudly pulls his catch from the water, and in the background, the traditional mermaid.
Texte from the artist :
« A deeply emotional moment for me this morning. Thank you all for your presence and for the endless requests for dedications. Thank you to everyone, thank you to the city of Dunkirk. Thank you, Mr. Mayor, Mr. Minister, and of course, the members of the carnival and philanthropic associations. 🙏🙏 »
